Don't Stay Disappointed :-)

I woke up this morning and realized that my birthday is less than a day away. At this point I’m not exactly excited because nothing has gone as planned. It’s actually gone so far off to left field that I really have no plans at all lol and so it’s obvious that a bit of disappointment has come to sit at my door.

Looking back into my past I didn’t teach myself how to deal with disappointment correctly….and neither did anyone else. While I do love a good quote….that just really isn’t always enough for me when I’m sitting in those intense moments of pure emotion. After years of allowing disappointment to steal days out of my life I decided it was time to just learn how to deal with it.

So…what do I do?

Well whenever something happens that causes me disappointment I have to stop myself. That means I have to stop my emotions or thoughts before they become to dramatic leading me to erupt into tears. I am a very passionate person you know.  *inserts nervous laugh* Next I take a step back and look at the situation from different points of view. If my disappointment is because of bad planing or unrealistic expectations from of other people it helps to just see why things didn’t work out and sometimes how it’s actually better for me that things didn’t work out. Last thing I do (now here is the big one ladies and gentlemen) *insert drumroll* ……I ADJUST! It’s that simple. If something doesn’t work out as planned the best way to make the most of out the situation is to simply adjust…adjust my attitude or my plans. I work with what I have and continue to enjoy my life.

Some people are natural planners…organized little humans with a plan for everything. But take it from me, don’t get so attached to the plan that if things don’t work out it disrupts your world. Just stop, take a deep breath and analyze the reality of whats happening then adjust to get the most happy out of your day.

It’s been working for me. I hope it works for you !

If you have any other tips on how to deal with disappointment don’t hesitate to comment below and let me know!

I’m off to celebrate another year of life! Later love bugs!

I'm the same way Nay Nay!!! It's hard to not get disappointed about this especially when you have certain expectations. I'm learning how not to dwell on things beyond my control. What ever is meant will most definitely be!! Xoxo

    Wonderful tips!

I touched on this topic in this weeks Motivation Monday. One problem, I used to have, similar to yours, is I would allow myself to dwell on things for days…even weeks at a time. And it just creates an emotional domino effect. You just get so stuck in your feelings. One thing I try to do is be upset about something for 30 minutes and then move the hell on! So far it seems to be working!
