Stop, Drop, Pray!

Okay so here are a couple of my flaws:

1. I am a worry wort. Something I think I inherited from my father.

2. I am one of the best procrastinators in… house.

3. I tend to get angry on the behalf of others…not that they need my help I just don’t like to see people treated bad.

4. I am an overly passionate person. My emotions usually go from one extreme to the other and sometimes I attempt to work on that. My friends say dramatic :-/ I say passionate.

5……I could list more but I said I would only list a couple.

My reason for listing these flaws was simply to prove that I have habits which cause me to get sad, down, depressed, angry with my current situation yada yada yada. People label their negative emotions as different things.

I am in fact a recovering closet sad sack.  Nate, you might ask, what is a closet sad sack?

Closet Sad Sack : One who smiles in public but suffers in private from heavy bouts of sadness.

However I am happy to report that I have recently began to put back into practice a tool that has been instilled in me since I was a baby. It’s one of those things I was taught just after learning to talk. Its called prayer. *huge round of applause for prayer*

I have been very bothered lately about school, getting older, my job, my distance from my boy…manfriend (as Carrie Bradshaw would say) and other things. Each time my mind goes off to one of these facets of my life I become a bit drained and I can feel myself getting down. During one of these times all of the positive things I had been soaking  up finally clicked in my head and I knew exactly what to do.

Here is how it works:

Step 1: STOP!

You DO NOT have to dwell on any old  thought that arises in your head. If it is not profitable to think about it just Stop. Sometimes I may have to say out loud “No. I don’t want to think about that right now.” Which if I am around people may cause a “huh? think about what?” to which I have to reply “nothing. *insert awkward smile* talking to myself.” But that is the first step – just do it.

Step 2: DROP!

Yes, drop whatever you are doing. You couldn’t have been that engaged in it anyway because you started thinking too hard about the wrong things. lol Just stop what you are doing take a few moments and get yourself into position for step 3. I believe this is where, if you are near it, you can get into your “prayer closet”.

Step 3: PRAY!

OH YES! JUST PRAY! Tell Jesus all about it!! Don’t hold back. Every bit of concern you have whether it be for you or for someone else just explain it to Jesus in as many or as little words as and you feel are needed and ask for help to get through it. Pray until you have pressed your way to peace.

So there it is. A sort of short simple “How To” for my fellow sad sackers. We weren’t meant to carry worry, doubt, frustration, anger, or any negative thoughts and emotions around with us day to day. I choose to pray to Jesus. I can not force you to do the same but I can encourage you just to give it a try. I hope it helps you just as much as it helps me every   single  day.

And of course I would not leave you with out some sort of photo so here is what I wore for Resurrection Sunday !!!
Overload of greenery. I know.
Hope you are having a beautiful Sunday!!! if you have any tips on how you hold on to your happy I would love to hear about them!!

Great Post. Being that I can definitely relate to #1 and #2 I would just like to say that I have come to realize that I will worry LESS if I do not procrastinate. Definitely reduces the anxiety.

Great post, this is something that I have experienced and even recently dealt with. GOD has placed me in so many situations of happiness and until a few weeks ago, I didn't even realize what he was doing because I was stuck in a place of doubt. I say that because I asked GOD to do it, but I was not mentally prepared to handle the joy he was giving me due to the fact that my mind set didn't step up to the level I had asked him to take me. I kept thinking that something would go wrong ….why because it has in the past. But when I woke up and opened my eyes I had to thank GOD and shake off every negative thought, every negative emotion and walk into the Victory he was giving me. Thanks for this post it was really CONFIRMATION!!!!!

Great post and definitely CONFIRMATION for me!!!! This is a real topic because in the last few months I've seen GOD move in my life In ways that are beyond major, but I just started walking I, the joy he was giving me because I asked him for change,he gave It, but my mindset didn't change. I was still thinking negative thought even while experiencing the positive things. Then one day after prayer I got it!!!! Now I'm experiencing great joy cause my mindset now matches my desires and God's desires for me!!!
